The first thing you should do is
to decide on a color scheme. This should be done before you look at fabrics.
The next thing you will want to consider is how the colors you have chosen
blend in with drapes and decorative items you have chosen for your room.
Third, choose fabric, if you have children and pets, choose close knitted
fabrics for slipcovers, making sure the material is heavy and durable
for the chair.
During the construction of the slipcovers,
you will have to pin the material on the chair to make sure it fits. The
next step is to figure out how much fabric you will need. Once you have
purchased the material, cut out rectangles of the material, and lay them
right side down and pin it with seams facing outwards. Allow for seams
that need to be sewed.
Now sew each seam, and go back
and fit it on the chair to check the fit, then go on to the next area
in that section. Stitch the seams in the order that you measured and fitted
them. Repeat these steps for all sections of your chair, making sure you
lay the rectangles on the chair and pin the seams of the sections together
and sewing each curve and corner separately as you go.
If all this seems tricky, rememeber
that once you have learned how to make slipcovers, and gained experience,
all the above steps will go more quickly.
